Meet Owner Tiffany Kanoa: A Multifaceted Entrepreneur

Updated: Jul 6, 2023

Tiffany Kanoa's entrepreneurial journey is a testament to her unwavering determination and evident ability to excel in multiple industries. From her early passion for acting to her thriving career in real estate and digital marketing, Tiffany has embraced diverse opportunities, carving her own path to success and inspiring others to do the same. In this blog post, we will delve into Tiffany's journey thus far, briefly highlighting a few of her achievements in acting, real estate, and digital marketing, and how her unique experiences have shaped her into the professional she is today.

Nurturing A Love For The Arts

Tiffany's journey began during her time at Mid-Pacific Institute School of the Arts, where she attended grade school. It was there that she developed her artistic passion, landing lead roles in a number of plays and musicals including 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Argonautika, and Tony Kushner's beloved adaptation of The Illusion, directed by SAG actor Alex Monti Fox. These formative experiences ignited her fascination for the film industry and laid the foundation for her future career in the performing arts.

Pursuing Artistic Aspirations Through Education

Building on her love for acting, Tiffany pursued further education to refine her skills and broaden her horizons. She attended the prestigious New York Film Academy (NYFA) in Burbank, CA, majoring in Acting for Film. Studying there for over a year, the immersive program provided her with invaluable training from industry leaders, allowing her to sharpen her craft and develop a deeper understanding of the acting industry as a whole.

The John Kirby Influence

Continuing her commitment to growth, Tiffany dove into the "Hollywood Shuffle" head first, taking a gap year away from traditional schooling and attending an outside acting class led by renowned director and acting coach, John Kirby, at the John Kirby Studio in Hollywood, CA. This experience allowed her to learn from a seasoned professional, gain insights into the nuances of the craft, and develop a meaningful relationship with one of her proclaimed role models.

"I was surrounded by a group of individuals who were insanely talented, to the point where I was equally as intimidated as I was inspired by them when I came into the studio every week."

She goes on by saying how, "...This environment inspired me to work harder than I ever had before in an acting class... I'd find myself running lines until 2 AM some nights, trying to find the right beats for the scene.". Tiffany's studies at the John Kirby Acting Studio further enhanced her skills, enriched her artistic sensibilities, and deepened her respect for artists alike. Such influential training led to some of her notable accomplishments in film and television, landing a day player role in Amazon Studios' recent re-boot of I Know What You Did Last Summer, appearing as the principal character in an episode of Justice For All with Judge Cristina Perez, and earning the principle role in the UCLA Thesis film known as The Benchwarmer. These experiences allowed her to further refine her acting skills and reciprocally expand her professional network.

The Pivot Into Real Estate
While pursuing her career in one of the most selective industries in the country, she needed the actor's infamous "survival job", essentially a way to buy packs of ramen and turkey franks in order to survive so they can continue pursuing their passion.
"[While looking for another job] No one wanted to hire me. They wanted more experience, but that's the age-old juxtaposition - How can I get experience if no one wants to hire me in the first place? I wanted to do something that personally mattered to me as much as acting did... That's sort of when I knew I had to take a leap...invest in myself and pursue my passions by creating a career that I could not only survive, but thrive in."
Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to attain her California real estate license - An exam with a current passing rate of just 45%. Perhaps as fate would have it, the film industry faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic soon thereafter, prompting Tiffany to pivot and explore new opportunities back home as the industry, and the rest of the world, went into lockdown.

Real Estate in Paradise

Returning home to O'ahu, Tiffany embarked on a new chapter, obtaining her Hawai'i real estate license amidst her time in quarantine. While I was learning how to do new Tiktok dances in my living room, this chick was voluntarily studying for an exam. Stepping into the dynamic and competitive real estate market during unprecedented times, she displayed her tenacity and dedication to her clients' needs. Her ability to navigate the complexities of the industry, strategically negotiate on her clients' behalf, and naturally connect with prospects had allowed her to help multiple families find their forever homes. Not only did the hot market of 2020-early 2022 teach her more about the real estate industry, but it also shined light on the ways it had helped her improve in other aspects of her life as well: "Acting and real estate really go hand in hand with one another. It's not what you know but who you know - And I only started to really embrace that once I got into real estate.".

"It [Real Estate] showed me how to really brand myself, how self-driven you need to be, and how you need to both market yourself and network effectively in order to increase your client base and keep them happy."
Academic Pursuits and Media Accomplishments

As if balancing two professional careers wasn't enough, she attended Arizona State University (ASU), where she graduated with a degree in Film and Media Studies Summa Cum Laude. She minored in Digital Audiences, and her passion for online marketing, something she's been doing for both of these careers all along, came to surface. Her studies at ASU provided her with a well-rounded skill set and a deeper understanding of the ever-evolving digital landscape. Along the way, she attained Google certifications in Google Ad Search, Google Ad Video, and Google Analytics.

The Birth of NU Marketing

"Throughout my career in real estate and acting, effectively marketing myself and my clients' properties was always my priority." Driven by a desire to bridge the gap between the need for social media marketing and the lack of available local resources, Tiffany founded NU Marketing. "I grew up in Hawai'i, and it was so sad to see some of my favorite childhood businesses close down during COVID, while I saw others thrive once they tapped into their online presence... I noticed this gap between the need for social media marketing and a company, or lack thereof, that could help them.".
